Who Are We?

Image
In short, we are your neighbors!  We started as the Dearborn Area Nature Alliance in 2020 with a goal to protect the natural environments in the park. We wanted to make it a healthier park that is safer for all of us! We had our work cut out for us. So, in 2025 we joined forces with Friends of Dearborn Park! What's the difference between the two? Dearborn Area Nature Alliance takes the lead on the efforts that are limited to the City of Decatur section of park, adjacent to Dearborn Circle. Why, you ask? The majority of the park property is managed by Dekalb County, and a portion is managed by the City of Decatur. While most volunteers don't care too much about the boundary lines, when applying for grants, fundraising, recruiting volunteers, etc., things can get tricky. Friends of Dearborn Park will sponsor volunteer opportunities when work is being done on county-managed property. Dearborn Area Nature Alliance will support all volunteer days that take place on City of Decatur-managed property. As a park supporter, you may not even notice that anything is different, but we are grateful to now have the support of both Dekalb County and the City of Decatur. We would like to acknowledge the dedication that our neighbor, Kevin Polite, has displayed over the last 15 years as chair of ...
